Our Vision.

Artisanal mining in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) brings economic opportunity, but also risk of exploitation and abuse for women. The Resource-ful Empowerment curriculum links women’s organizations across DRC to improve human and environmental protection.

Creating change through an approach that is:

Visual.

The curriculum uses vignettes and images created by a female Congolese artist to ensure that all people in mining towns – including those who may not be literate – can benefit equally from the messages conveyed in this project. The images enrich beneficiaries’ understanding of the learning materials - in an accessible and equitable way.

Evidence-based.

Drawing on proven practices, the materials emphasize the links between people who work in mining towns, and the links between people and their environment. Using exercises to build empathy and an awareness of the interconnectedness, this approach helps improve both environmental and human outcomes.

Iterative.

A core element of this project is robust monitoring and evaluation (M&E). This allows our team to continue to adapt and refine the curriculum and approach - and to build the evidence around gender, climate change and COVID-19 prevention.
